The Nourisher - Editor’s Blog

When we got married the registry wouldn’t let me put Super Hero as my occupation, they put Home Duties on our marriage certificate instead. But I AM a Super Hero and my Super Hero name is…… The Nourisher.

Editorial :: April Edition

By Joanne Hay

I’m amazed at how much was achieved in the last month. As you may recall, our family were homeless. This is not an uncommon experience in Byron, the holiday destination of many travellers and the ultimate destination of many a baby boomer, spending their grand children’s inheritance on flash homes built on dodgy, soon to be ocean, waterlogged swamps. (Sustainable investment - I don’t think). Anyway, we landed on our feet and found a home by the time I wrote last month’s editorial, only to lose our ground again within a week.

While in Sydney, a city that always rattles me with it’s speed and ultra-masculine, aggressive energy, we received a phone call from our friends whose land we were planning on moving to upon our return. It seemed the tenants of the house were not happy with the activity going into renovating the 2 bedroom unit and it would not be ready upon our return, perhaps not even in the medium term. We were homeless again. Being a highly emotional person, I flew into an flurry of panic, anger, hoplessness and fear. This no doubt assisted by my abuse of coffee earlier that day. Wes, my dear husband who is very present and respectful of the feminine, just held me.

I railed against the unfairness of it all, shaking my fist at the universe and at humans for making it so difficult for me to live my dream. I wept and asked Wes, “Why is it so expensive to be different, why does it cost so much to own my life?” Silly question, in retrospect. It’s cheap and easy to fit into the system and follow the leader but that would never satisfy me, much like vegemite sandwiches on white bread. I wasn’t thinking so reasonably, however, while throwing a full blown tantrum in the main treet of Coogee.

Now comes the Nourishing Tip

Next morning, I was exhausted and in no better mood than the night before.

Looking in my swollen eyes, Wes asked me to imagine success and show him with my eyes what it would feel like to have achieved my goals. Looking in his eyes, I showed him. He asked me to magnify it 10 times. It was very hard, as you can imagine, but I trust him and gave it a go. I did it again and again until I was jumping around the room with glee, keeping eye contact with Wes and giving him the Nourishment of my emotional energy. Laughing, he said I looked like the Cat that got the Cream. And so, “The Cat that Got the Cream Game” was born. We now try to practise it every day. It works.

The Story Continues

We’ve returned from our exhilarating tour of East Australia. We spoke with many very wonderful visionary business owners in our field. Our intention is to create THE source for wise foods, Nourishing practitioners and products and services in Australia. Come peak oil, no more will we be getting in the car and driving around looking for this and that when we can go online and find where’s best to shop. Just about everyone we spoke with agreed that this was needed and warmly welcomed our ideas. We’re excited about being able to share their message of Nourishment with you soon.

We’ve set up a little camp kitchen and our yurt in the back yard of our friends while we wait for the cranky (no doubt undernourished) tenants to depart and last night had a big dinner party on the lawn. A great welcome home. Only in Byron Bay hey.

Nourishing Prizes

Since we’ve been on the run, you’ll have to forgive us dear winners of last month’s Nourishing prizes. We haven’t sent out the delicious Nui, Green Pastures and Nourishing Book pack. We’ll let you know the winner in the next few days. We also killed the Kefir. So we’ve sent an emergency signal to Dom for some more and will fulfill our promise as soon as we can.

2die4almonds.jpg2die4pecans.jpgThis month we’re giving away some Activated Nuts from 2Die4 live foods and a Nourishing Traditions recipe book. $50 worth of soaked, fermented and dehydrated nuts mmmmm and “The Bible” valued at $60. All you have to do is be a subscriber to win.

Nourishing the Community

Welcome to Sophie whose new blog, Confused About Nutrition, has attracted quite an interesting discussion. Lauren pondered ethical omnivory as did many readers of last month’s edition. And thanks to Suzanne, we had a lovely discussion about Bone Broth.

Nourishing the Magazine

Saturday morning I awoke to a panicked email from Filippa, our sub editor, written at 4am. She’d awoken at midnight thinking it was April 1 the next day and hurried to complete this month’s edition, working until 4am. It was actually March 29 the next day and Filippa and I had a great laugh when she realised she was way early with this month’s edition.

And what an edition. I’m sure you’ll agree, Filippa has gathered some very inspiring new articles and featured some wonderful goodies we published a couple of years ago on Nourished. Dr Isaac Golden’s article on Homeopathic Vaccination is awesome. We’ve heard from Ron Schmidt when Wes and I asked his advice while doing the Raw Milk Cure and we’ve reviewed his excellent book, The Untold Story of Milk. This month we bring you an excellent article from Ron, Recovering from Vegetarianism.

This month we also feature fermenting with our Sauerkraut Recipe and an interview with Fermentation Fetishist, Sandor Katz along with a review of his book, Wild Fermentation.

Feminine Mystique

How many of you, dear Nourishers enjoyed last month’s article about Feminine energy.

Filippa and I would like to encourage this discussion more. So we’re offering a prize this month to any bloggers and readers who wish to comment. Answer this question here, “How has the Goddess filled your life and how do you express Feminine energy?” You don’t have to be female to answer, we The Goddess need your praise men. Please tell.

Some feminine practises:

Growing a garden, growing children, caring for the elderly, birthing with awareness, gathering as women to honour and worship the creatrix. Even just gathering to support each other is enough: to garden, to cook, to clean, to hold infants, to plant trees. These things may not be glamourized in our current culture but they sure are Nourishing.wemoon.jpg

Some Feminine Prizes:
A pack of cute wemoon moon pads to save our earth and your blood for your plants and a pack of Wise Traditions magazines full of Nourishing stories and the latest scientific proof that following the wise ways of our foremothers in the kitchen is best.

Nourishing the Directory

Our source managers are readying themselves to gather many a Nourisher to the directory. We’re still looking for partners in Perth, Sunshine Coast and Tasmania so if you live there and want to earn a little extra cash while connecting your local Nourishers with our readers, send us and email and let us know.

Welcome to new sponsors, And watch this month for many more joining us to share more of their vision. Please pop over and give them your Nourishing feedback, testimonials and any suggestions you may have to help them serve us better.
