The Nourisher - Editor’s Blog

When we got married the registry wouldn’t let me put Super Hero as my occupation, they put Home Duties on our marriage certificate instead. But I AM a Super Hero and my Super Hero name is…… The Nourisher.

Editorial: August Edition

By The Nourisher

Brrrr. My thermal singlet, thermal boxer shorts, thermal t-shirt and thermal leggings aren’t quite keeping up to the job today. This winter, we have tried to cut down on power usage by not using heaters. Even though we only buy green power, use bio diesel and buy carbon credits, it’s fun to get up and run around in the sun or have a really hot bath with the husband and/or kids to warm up. There’s been a few chilly days when we’ve had to take the chill off the air by switching on the heater but over all we’re doing alright. It helps to have woolies and, of course, to live in sunny Byron Bay…

If that’s not enough boasting, though, I have another for you. In just under a week, we’re going to accept deliver of our very own Mongolian Yurt. Handmade in Northern China in the traditional style, our 7 metre portable home will be our new office. We’ll post some photos of the yurt raising party and the finished product when it’s erected and tell you more about how to get one yourself.

July was an awesome month and August looks to be just as inspiring.

We now have over 580 subscribers to the monthly newsletters and some 15,000 visitors to the site each month. Welcome new subscribers! Last month I was able to concentrate on working with some advertisers wanting to share their message with you and their money with me - how very nourishing… Welcome to our new sponsors! and over the next few weeks I hope to introduce you all to some more very nourishing products and services and to launch the Nourishing Directory.

This month we have for you another heart warming edition of Nourished Magazine.

Maha Al Musa, belly dance teacher and inspirational writer shares a chapter from her new book, Dance of the Womb, about what Australian Aboriginal women famously call, ‘women’s business’. Her story relates her experience in Jordan when, returning to her roots for the first time, she is suprised to find a very powerful feminine spiritual power. Maha’s book is a must for women who wish to free their own birthing power.

Royal Lee, maverick nutritionist from early last century, is responsible for many technological and nutritional advancements in health today. This month we share with you his musings on colloids in traditional foods, herbs and clays.

If you haven’t already heard of Susun Weed, then where have you been:) She’s probably the most well known herbalists of North America. Her work centres around teaching as many apprentices basic herbology and natural health care as she can. Her introduction is the first in many contributions Susun intends to share with the Nourished readers. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments.

Loretta Wallace shares with us some green cleaning tips. We could always use some ideas to help the wider environment while we clean our own.

Elaeis Organics shares a recipe for Palm Oil, a traditional oil from West Africa.

Sally Fallon has been busy with your questions, she has three answers for us this month. If you have any more. Just ask.

And finally, we have a review of Jo Robinson’s Pasture Perfect, about the benefits of pastured animal foods to the body, the farmers and the environment. This review is sponsored by Pasture Perfect Pork, an Australian free range pork operation in Northern NSW.

August will also bring you:

  • The Nourishing Directory. Soon you’ll be able to search for nourishing foods, products, services and practitioners from around the world. Slowly but surely, we’ll build a comprehensive list of nourishing choices we can recommend. You can help by sending us an email with your favourite products, services and practitioners.
  • Another Carnival of Nourishment - join in bloggers if you like.
  • More prizes - July’s winners will be announce in the next couple of days and this month we have different Nourishing Pack to give away to one of our lucky subscribers: 1 litre each of Elaeis Organic Coconut Oil and Red Palm Oil. Palm kernel oil is has a fatty acid profile very similar to that of coconut oil so it could be substituted into any recipe that included coconut oil. Eleai’s supplier has third party social (fair trade) certification with S.A. 8000 employing small hold farmers in central America. This palm oil is not grown in plantations which threaten the habitat of the orangutan such as those in Indonesia. A portion of profit from the coconut oil is used for various Banaban welfare projects in Fiji. The Banabans are the indigenous Fijian group who supply the coconut oil, they no longer live on their original island due to it being devastated by a multinational phosphate mining company. Nourishing for everyone!
  • Also our pass it forward prizes this month are 5 tubs of Witches Brew Anti Aging Cream with good old fashioned organic pasture fed lard and whey. Skin care, grandma style. It works.. Just click the ‘Share the Love’ tab on the top of your newsletter and you just may win one.

Look forward to your comments and posts, dear Nourishers. Welcome to August.
