The Nourisher - Editor’s Blog

When we got married the registry wouldn’t let me put Super Hero as my occupation, they put Home Duties on our marriage certificate instead. But I AM a Super Hero and my Super Hero name is…… The Nourisher.

Editorial: June Moon

Who is enjoying that dazzling Full Moon? What a beauty she is. There’s nothing quite like a clear, cold winter’s night, a hot cup of broth by the fire and a big blue-white full moon to gaze at.

Karen, our slim, witchy sister who lives in the studio in the garden, said to me the other day, “I think all this nourishing food is making me more hardy. I used to feel the cold a lot and this year while everyone’s rugging up, I’ve hardly noticed it.” The last sister who lived in the unlined, uninsulated studio (shed really) was so cold she spent most days of our mild winter in a heavy overcoat and had to leave when summer came saying she couldn’t handle another winter. While Karen lives on potatoes cooked in lard, chicken broth, coconut butter and raw milk, this sister considered avocado on toast nourishing, couldn’t bare the thought of boiling up some bones or taking cod liver oil daily and certainly wouldn’t cook meat. She did, however, get raw milk while she was here so there’s some hope she’ll continue with it and one day run bare foot in frigid streams, like the Swedish children Weston A Price visited.

What a month. In May, Sally Fallon, Goddess of Nourishment, graced our shores with one of the most inspiring lectures I’ve witnessed. And judging by the light filled faces leaving the Brisbane and Sydney lecture theatres, I’m not the only one inspired to make a difference in this world in terms of nourishment. Her powerful message delivered in her smooth, American voice is as nourishing as the baked custards I made last week (5 egg yolks for every 2 cups of half-half raw milk and cream plus 1/4 cup rapadura or honey and vanilla). If you ever get a chance to attend a lecture by this woman, don’t hesitate. It will change your life.

If you don’t have her book yet, you may just win one in our Nourishing Pack. One lucky subscriber this month will win Sally Fallon’s Nourishing Traditions, some Cod Liver Oil/Butter Oil blend from Green Pastures Australia, and 500ml Coconut Oil from Tropical Traditions. We’ll announce the winner of last month’s Nourishing Pack in the next few days as well as the 5 pass it forward prizes. The five pass it forward prizes this month are five 500ml jars of Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil.

This month Mark Sircus helped me piece together an exploration of mercury and uranium detoxification: how to help stop the use of these dangerous chemicals, how to avoid them in your area, your home and your body, and how to detoxify if you have indeed been exposed to them. It seemed only fair to offer some good news after our April article outlining the damage mercury and uranium are doing to humans. On the Native Nutrition front, Colleen Huber puts to rest the oft said and extremely annoying adage, “Everything in Moderation“, you’ll be air punching and I told you so-ing as you read this little beauty. Winter coming on, what better way to celebrate than rich gelatinous broths and tonnes of Vitamin D rich foods to ward off the Flu. Sally Fallon answers Leigh’s queries about protein shakes and reviews Udo Erasmus’s Fats that Kill, Fats that Heal. And to top of this month’s nourishing offering Judith Rubin shares with us her incredibly empowering No Junk Toys. My guess is this article will be sent to many a grandmother. Send away fellow Nourishers.

Good luck in the draw and please comment on any article or post. We all love to hear your feed back.
