The Nourisher - Editor’s Blog

When we got married the registry wouldn’t let me put Super Hero as my occupation, they put Home Duties on our marriage certificate instead. But I AM a Super Hero and my Super Hero name is…… The Nourisher.

Editorial: Rely on July

By Joanne Hay

It’s mid winter here in Sunny Oz and it’s a cold one. My dear friend, Julia has the right idea. She is leaving in a couple of weeks for the Oneness University in Chennai, India where it is mid-summer. I don’t know why but most houses here in Byron Bay have no heating what so ever. I think we’re in denial of winter. Our house is actually colder than the yard. It’s like a fridge and Wes and I are such carbon Nazis we won’t use a heater. If I could work in the sun, I would. But I can’t so I just rug up in thermals, three shirts, a jumper and a jacket and drink broths and eat steak and kidney stew and quinoa casserole. I’m sure high vitamin Cod Liver Oil has also helped me cope much better with the cold this year.

So, apart from the cold, what can we rely on July for? How about a wonderful edition of Nourished Magazine.

Sarah J Buckley gives us the signature article of her career as acclaimed free birth educator, Heal Birth, Heal Earth. We are very grateful that Sarah has contributed this profound work which cites passion, love, surrender and power as essential aspects of whole birth.. free birth.. peaceful birth.. Nourishing birth.

At the other extreme, Kaayla Daniel warns against the dangers of feeding soy to infants. Her very disturbing commentary of the nutritional ignorance leading to the suffering of children of parents who believe their doing the best is more chilling than the July weather.

Gina Cachao gives us a rousing and then some very practical and easy steps we can take to make a difference and green the world in her useful article, It’s About The Little Things.

Sherri Tenpenny, world reknown expert on the dangers of vaccination, gives us the good news on travel vaccines. You don’t need them. She also dispenses some invaluable advice on avoiding common travel related illnesses.

Sally Fallon treats us to a scathing review of Rosemary Stanton’s Good Fat Bad Fat: about time we had a negative book review - it’s so much more fun. Sally also answers a couple of readers questions. If you have any yourself, just send us an email and we’ll put them to her.

We can also rely on July for:

  • More fantastic posts from our community of Nourishers like, this lovely Summery story by Henriette in Denmark or Lacey’s defection from pump and grind it lifestyle to Nourishment central at her great blog, Against the Grain and Louise at SOS has had a win with her family. Find out how she successfully guides her kids toward a Nourishing lifestyle.
  • More new bloggers like Lacey at Against the Grain and Wendy, our first Earth Nourisher, at Watersong who joined us in June.
  • More controversy like this post on kids, food and control, which sparked a huge discussion (bordering on argument) and brought two communities together to thrash it out. Unschoolers vs Nourishers: round one.
  • Another Carnival of Nourishment - join in bloggers if you like.
  • More prizes - June’s winners will be announce in the next couple of days and this month we have another Nourishing Pack to give away to one of our lucky subscribers. Guess what! We have 500 subscribers as of yesterday! WOW! Pass the newsletter on and you’ll also go in the draw to win 500ml of Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil, great for dry winter skin as well as eating by the spoonful.

Look forward to your comments and posts, dear Nourishers. Welcome to July.

Joanne Hay, Editor of Nourished Magazine, Chief Nourisher and Mother of three is very grateful to live in Byron Bay and be able to share all she has learned about Nourishment. She has trained as an Acupuncturist (unfinished), Kinesiologist (finished) and parent (never finished). She serves the Weston A Price Foundation as a chapter leader. She loves sauerkraut, kangaroo tail stew, home made ice cream, her husband Wes and her kids Isaiah, Brynn and Ronin (in no particular order…well maybe ice cream first).
