The Nourisher - Editor’s Blog

When we got married the registry wouldn’t let me put Super Hero as my occupation, they put Home Duties on our marriage certificate instead. But I AM a Super Hero and my Super Hero name is…… The Nourisher.

Foods with the Highest Pesticides

By Joanne Hay

Ever wonder which fruits and veggies are most likely to have pesticide residues?

Wonder no more! says one of my favourite blogs, Sutainable Table. They’ve given us the heads up to the US based Environmental Working Group’s list of the top 12 fruits and vegetables most often contaminated with pesticides.

This list - dubbed the “Dirty Dozen” - includes:

  • Peaches
  • Apples
  • Sweet bell peppers
  • Celery
  • Nectarines
  • Strawberries
  • Cherries
  • Pears
  • Grapes
  • Spinach
  • Lettuce
  • Potatoes

So if you can’t get our hands on local, organic food, definitely try to avoid these.

She has trained as an Acupuncturist (unfinished), Kinesiologist (finished) and parent (never finished). She serves the Weston A Price Foundation as a chapter leader. She loves sauerkraut, kangaroo tail stew, home made ice cream, her husband Wes and her kids Isaiah, Brynn and Ronin (in no particular order…well maybe ice cream first).

  1. Some health and wellness products can come in the form of jewelry, such as Balance Bracelets, which are supposed to decrease pain, as well as increase energy.

  2. If you are unable to buy organic produce can the dirty dozen be soaked in apple cider vinegar? If so, do you know how much apple cider vinegar in relation to water?

  3. I’d love to know too. Does anyone know to answer to this querie?

  4. It is apparently better to peel and/or cook them. I usually wash with 50/50 (vinegar/water) straight away - to also stop bacteria from multiplying.
