The Nourisher - Editor’s Blog

When we got married the registry wouldn’t let me put Super Hero as my occupation, they put Home Duties on our marriage certificate instead. But I AM a Super Hero and my Super Hero name is…… The Nourisher.

Nourishing New Service :: Real Milk Herdshares

While our dear readers have been exclaiming at the lack of Real Milk available, we’ve been humming away at our computers creating a possible solution to our milky woes. Herdshare.com. That’s right. Get over there and register your interest in owning a cow (or part-thereof) and securing a local real milk supply in your region. Send your friends. It’s still in the development stages, but if enough Nourishers express interest it’ll happen. Just think, creamy milk, home made butter and cream with your name on it, waiting at your farmer’s market every week. Mmmm

Nourishing Community

Welcome to Louise whose new blog After Ana shares her recovery from an eating disorder: a thoroughly enjoyable read by a no-nonsense gal who’s determined to not only survive but to Thrive. Otherwise the community has been real quiet. Hopefully you are all either cooking up a storm if it’s winter or you Northerners are out having Fun in the Sun. If you haven’t shared for a while, remember, dear Nourishers, there’s a blogging competition going on. So get those fingers typing and you might win a pack of cloth pads from wemoon, valued at $60 but worth so much more.

Nourishing Sponsors

Our fabulous sponsors are giving away some awesome gifts on the Nourished MarketPlace. Cleopatra’s are giving away monthly gifts to Nourished Readers, a month’s worth of Cleopatra’s Bath Milk to the value of $26. Nui are giving away cacao nibs to anyone who joins them in Stewarding Developing Nations in the Pacific. Buy their beautiful Coconut products and you’re helping our brothers and sisters in the Pacific create a healthy sustainable economy, independent of global forces. Melrose are giving away a Nourishing Melrose Family Pack worth $40 every month. Green Pastures are helping out by giving you free shipping when you spend more than $150 with them. They’ve also got a great new product in, just in time for last month’s edition on digestive health: Primal Defense.

We’re offering a free 3 month trial of our new e-commerce system. So if you’re a small producer or retail store and you don’t want to spend thousands on an online store, drop us a line.

We’re also offering 3 months free to Practitioners who join the MarketPlace by June 20.

Well Nourished Winners

Well I haven’t been able to furnish all you Pass-it-Forward winners with the Kefir grains since I killed my own (murderer!) and Dom is not keeping up with supply himself. We’ll endeavour to get another batch and start a Kefir lab in our camp kitchen so we can make good on our promise in future mags.

But for those winners in the past, never fear, we’re giving you the Cleo’s, the Melrose and the food2die4 Activated Nuts give aways instead. And the winners are….

Jonah H wins the Cleopatra’s Bath Milk

Victoria W wins the Melrose Family Pack

Belinda Y wins the Activated Nuts

There are a few more winners we haven’t made good on our promise yet. Viola, Shannon, Maxel, Lani and Lauren. We’ll get you Kefir Grains as soon as we can. Meantime, Karen at Witch’s Brew has offered to step in and send you each a Delush Ginger Exfolliant Pack.

Nourishing Edition

This month’s edition is about a topic close to my heart: Fertility. I’m very fertile - Wes just has to look sideways at me… If we didn’t practise conscious conception techniques, I’m sure I’d have 18 kids by now. Filippa, our sub editor, also has a fertility story (or two) to tell. Unfortunately, having babies is not just about the fun part. Making sure we are well Nourished before and after conception makes all the difference. Nourished Magazine was born from my story of struggle around birthing and the infancies of my 3 children. Vegetarian Birthing and (non)Recovery Hell to Ecstatic Birthing and Robust Babies was a transformation that I certainly attribute in a large part to my state of Nourishment.

So this month’s edition is born..

Preconception Care In Modern Times by Karen McElroy, is a great read for an intro to the topic.

Ancient Dietary Wisdom for Tomorrow’s Children gives us Weston A Price’s indelible findings on nutrition and fertility.

Raising Baby Nappy Free: Sam Pearson of Earthslings clearly explains how to do away with nappies - disposables and cloth - once and for all.

Feeling Frisky? Herbs for Fertility: Susun Weed’s contribution to the Fertility story.

The Liver Files: since Liver is a sacred fertility food in many cultures.

Book Review: Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering by Sarah J Buckley

Ask Sally: menses/diet :: olive oil/weight gain :: sourdough starter :: dessicated liver/arsenic

Please join in the conversation, dear Nourishers, and share your stories of fertility. And be sure to ask Karen McElroy our very own Naturopath in the MarketPlace for her opinion. She works in Noosaville, so all you Sunshine Coasties can just pop in and see her. Lucky Ducks.

If any other Practitioners want to put their hand up and join the MarketPlace, remember our 3 month free trial.
