The Nourisher - Editor’s Blog

When we got married the registry wouldn’t let me put Super Hero as my occupation, they put Home Duties on our marriage certificate instead. But I AM a Super Hero and my Super Hero name is…… The Nourisher.

My Egg is Coming

By Joanne Hay

flowformindexleft.jpgHave you heard of Flow Forms? My new mate Phil Sedgman sells them to organic and biodynamic farmers or home gardeners. His site tells me they are beautiful and varied water features that bring a sense of calm to the observer, while enriching and oxygenating water. Flowforms by design, emulate the swirls and vortices of the mountain stream, enabling water to reoxygenate, revitalise and rejuvenate, bringing it back to its more natural state. These beautiful forms encourage the water that flows through them to bounce around their bowls in a lemniscate or infinity sign, just think of a figure of eight on its side. This, according to Victor Schauberger is the way water moves in our environment. It also is the way water breaths.

I’ve seen flow forms around the traps for quite some time. But since I’m not a gardener I never investigated the science and art of flow forms until… I came across the Amphora. This huge 42 litre capacity egg naturally encourages any water you store in it to move in the lemniscate symbol. It’s clay so as the water warms and moves to the top of the container, it begins to evaporate slightly through the clay and subsequently cools. The cooler water is heavier and falls down the inner walls of the amphora until it reaches the bottom, heats up and rises again to the top. This combined with the clay material which allows the water to breath, oxygenises and ‘enlivens’ the water.
We are already very careful with the water we drink.

We always drink filtered water. However, for quite a few years we bought San Pelagrino mineral water at a rate of about 3 litres a day. Not very thrifty, not very eco-conscious and a little over the top really. But we had to do it. Even water filtered through our pure water filter didn’t actually quench our thirst. So when Oliver, our new villager entered our community and brought with him his Wellness filter, we began to drink that water. Lo and Behold, suddenly we didn’t need mineral water. This water actually quenches our thirst. In fact, it makes me want to drink more water. My skin improved condition and my desire for caffeine diminished even more. I slept better. Wellness water is truly remarkable water.

amphora.jpgI thought I’d reached the pinnacle of water consumption. Oliver ensured me I had as far as filters are concerned. He investigated the whole water filter story thoroughly and decided the Wellness filter was the way to go. But then we found the Amphora. We’re getting one this week and I’m so excited.

Filtered, magnetised, remineralised and breathing water. It’ll be like drinking out of a mountain stream.

  1. Where do you find the Ampora?

  2. Intersted to know if you plan to filter the water separately before putting it in the egg?

  3. Yes Nicole, we use a wellness filter.

    I think I need to let you know that the Wellness is only a 1 micron water filter. Do your own research if you like and you’ll find that 1 micron won’t filter out the sort of bugs we get on the north coast like Giardia, Crypto and Blastocystis. My GP tells me that the reason people around Byron Bay are so thin isn’t diet; it’s parasites.

    Sorry to pop your bubble.

  5. Joanne,

    I would like to thank you for your kind comments on the Wellness Filter and I am pleased to hear it has worked so well for you. We like the egg shape idea and are looking into it.

    I would also like to re-inflate your bubble. The ‘Water Man’ has made some claims that are grossly innacurate and, frankly misleading.

    Firstly, the micron ratings stated for Giardia is 7-12 µm (where µm = microns) while Cryptosporidium oocysts 4–6 µm. Any good 1 micron absolute (absolute means >99.95% removal under test conditions exceeding >50,000 cysts) will reduce either of these bugs to NON-DETECTABLE levels.

    The Wellness Filter has been tested to NSF standards to meet and or exceed these levels with an absolute micron rating of 1 µm. So I can state, unequivocally, that Wellness will remove these bugs from water.

    The ‘Water Man’ further states these are ‘the sort of bugs we get on the north coast’. Unless I am missing something and the North Coast has developed unique and new biological lifeforms, these bugs are fairly common around the world and more prevalent than people think For instance;

    ‘Outbreaks of giardiasis in Australia often involve close communal groups. In day-care centres, for instance, as many as 20% of children may carry Giardia without symptoms (Grimmond GiardiaGiardiaet al 1988). Infection is endemic and is significant among children and adults in the wider community…. ‘

    Further;

    ‘Consumption of contaminated drinking water is only one of several mechanisms by which transmission
    (faecal-oral) can occur. Recreational waters, including swimming pools, are also emerging as an important
    source of giardiasis’ (Source: Australian Drinking Water Guidelines 2004-06 p)

    The fact is it is very rare to come across these bugs in municipally treated water. Chlorine, Chloramine and other primary treatement methods will eliminate these bugs, if present >99.9% of the time before they ever reach the distribution network.

    Now, if readers are using any type of water filter on untreated rain or river water then it is possible they could become sick. People on non-municipal water must pre-filter and sterilise with Ultra-violet sterilisation prior to introducing such water into any carbon based type of filter. Otherwise, the bugs will breed on the carbon (a food source) and without chlorine there to suppress growth the bugs grow wild. People could get very sick this way.

    We recommend everyone on rain or river water to pre-filter (we have a range of new Nano-Filters ideal for this) and sterlise with UItra-violet. We have had instances, especially in Byron Bay, where people have been sold filters without this elementary precaution. I would recommend anyone drinking rainwater today to install a pre-filter plus UV system. Yes, it will cost some more but ‘what price health?’

    I would think the ‘thinness’ of people around Byron has more to do with lifestyle and diet as opposed to a parisitic epidemic.

    Thank you for this. I stand corrected.
