Joanne,

I would like to thank you for your kind comments on the Wellness Filter and I am pleased to hear it has worked so well for you. We like the egg shape idea and are looking into it.

I would also like to re-inflate your bubble. The 'Water Man' has made some claims that are grossly innacurate and, frankly misleading.

Firstly, the micron ratings stated for Giardia is 7-12 µm (where µm = microns) while Cryptosporidium oocysts 4–6 µm. Any good 1 micron absolute (absolute means >99.95% removal under test conditions exceeding >50,000 cysts) will reduce either of these bugs to NON-DETECTABLE levels.

The Wellness Filter has been tested to NSF standards to meet and or exceed these levels with an absolute micron rating of 1 µm. So I can state, unequivocally, that Wellness will remove these bugs from water.

The 'Water Man' further states these are 'the sort of bugs we get on the north coast'. Unless I am missing something and the North Coast has developed unique and new biological lifeforms, these bugs are fairly common around the world and more prevalent than people think For instance;

'Outbreaks of giardiasis in Australia often involve close communal groups. In day-care centres, for instance, as many as 20% of children may carry Giardia without symptoms (Grimmond GiardiaGiardiaet al 1988). Infection is endemic and is significant among children and adults in the wider community.... '

Further;

'Consumption of contaminated drinking water is only one of several mechanisms by which transmission
(faecal-oral) can occur. Recreational waters, including swimming pools, are also emerging as an important
source of giardiasis' (Source: Australian Drinking Water Guidelines 2004-06 p)

The fact is it is very rare to come across these bugs in municipally treated water. Chlorine, Chloramine and other primary treatement methods will eliminate these bugs, if present >99.9% of the time before they ever reach the distribution network.

Now, if readers are using any type of water filter on untreated rain or river water then it is possible they could become sick. People on non-municipal water must pre-filter and sterilise with Ultra-violet sterilisation prior to introducing such water into any carbon based type of filter. Otherwise, the bugs will breed on the carbon (a food source) and without chlorine there to suppress growth the bugs grow wild. People could get very sick this way.

We recommend everyone on rain or river water to pre-filter (we have a range of new Nano-Filters ideal for this) and sterlise with UItra-violet. We have had instances, especially in Byron Bay, where people have been sold filters without this elementary precaution. I would recommend anyone drinking rainwater today to install a pre-filter plus UV system. Yes, it will cost some more but 'what price health?'

I would think the 'thinness' of people around Byron has more to do with lifestyle and diet as opposed to a parisitic epidemic.

Best regards,

I think I need to let you know that the Wellness is only a 1 micron water filter. Do your own research if you like and you'll find that 1 micron won't filter out the sort of bugs we get on the north coast like Giardia, Crypto and Blastocystis. My GP tells me that the reason people around Byron Bay are so thin isn't diet; it's parasites.

Sorry to pop your bubble.

Intersted to know if you plan to filter the water separately before putting it in the egg?
