The Nourisher - Editor’s Blog

When we got married the registry wouldn’t let me put Super Hero as my occupation, they put Home Duties on our marriage certificate instead. But I AM a Super Hero and my Super Hero name is…… The Nourisher.

Oscars are useful for something

By Joanne Hay

Adam from Terrapass, a carbon neutralising company in the US very politely said he usually can’t make it through the Oscars, he’s too fidgety. Utterly bored more like. But who would look this amazing gift horse in the mouth? The Academy have graced his company with the purchase of 53 certificates of 100,000 lbs of carbon credits each to grease the palms of the Oscar winners. That’s a big pressie and it would cover a little under 10 households in the US but would it put a dent on the use of these stars? This figure is only the emissions created by electricity, the true household carbon dumping is more like 160,000 pounds including travel, consumerism and factory farming.
So what do the celebs use? I want to know, just cause I’m nosey, is 100,000 credits enough? How much do their private planes guzzle? How much carbon is created in making their films?
Al gore has been grilled for using nearly 221,000 kWh-more than 20 times the national average. Our humble little company and family only use about 16 tonnes which is about 35,000 pounds for electricity (the rest is pretty hard to quanitify just yet). If you want to know your carbon responsibility check Climate Friendly’s calculator and let us know how you’re going.
