There’s plenty of information on the net about ‘detoxing’; bowel cleansing, liver cleansing, gall bladder flushing - the list goes on. The “you must cleanse” perspective on health is very convenient for shaming and shocking people into buying products: have you seen those poop pictures in the herbal bowel cleansing advertisements? We are told we’re sick because we’re dirty and we need to be cleaned, our bodies are broken and they need to be fixed. This is the age old story of ‘original sin’ in another disguise, and we fall for it every time because it’s so familiar. But is it true?
It is Nourished Magazine’s conviction that a well-nourished body cleans itself, at the appropriate times, when it has enough energy. Well-nourished bodies (and minds) have stronger immune systems, more resilient structure and organs that express their genetic potential with ease. A well-nourished body will detoxify itself in a snap.
So, in dedication to exceptional health for all humans, we bring you The Nourishing Meme. Broadly described in Wikipedia as a unit of cultural information that can be transmitted from one mind to another, a meme is a set of questions (usually five) we ask each other to stimulate conversation. When answering the meme, to ensure a broad discussion, one links back to it’s originator and tags at least 5 other bloggers so they answer the questions and do the same. Just copy and paste the first part of this post, up to question 5, into your blog. Then answer the meme and tag your friends.
These are our questions:
- What is the most nourishing thing you frequently do for your self?
- For your health, what will you never compromise on?
- Where do you get most of your health information?
- What single whole food or supplement has turned your health around the most?
- What is your favourite natural therapy?
And here are my answers:
- Walk on the beach dreaming up my best vision of my life.
- I buy only organic food and eat at home unless it’s fish and chips cooked in animal fat. I never consume sugar or coffee.
- The Weston Price Foundation.
- Raw milk.
- Other than food therapy, which I explore every day, I love Network Chiropractics which is nothing like traditional bone crunching Chiropractic work and Kinesiology.
I would love to read how the following people nourish themselves:
Jim Foster at Diet Blog
The people at Sustainable Table
Joseph Mercola at Mercola.com
Ross at Energize for Life
Bill Bailey at Traditional Naturopath
Brian Johnson at zaadz
Ed Mills, a personal development guru at EvolvingTimes
Tag, your it.
I’d also love to hear from readers, your favourite ways to nourish yourself. Leave a comment below.

I pick fresh veggies from my own garden, and eat them raw or lightly steamed. I will never compromise on eating foods that contain artificial sweeteners, and am trying to get sucrose outta my diet too. I get most of my health info from all over the internet, and especially from the wonderful pages of ACRES USA. If I can afford their conference, that is the ultimate! This invaluable newsletter/mag has been at my house for maybe fifteen years, and I would feel lost without it. I don’t know about ONE single health food alone, I eat wild game from the national forest where I live, and all kinds of veggies. Perhaps raw garlic is my favorite. My favorite natural therapy is staying at home instead of going into town or getting into the car. It could be chopping wood, or going for a hike in the woods.
