Turn the Tide

By Joanne Hay

Turn the Tide is an innovative program that Americans are using to make a difference for our environment. Turn the Tide, an initiative of The New American Dream offers nine simple actions almost anyone can take and then instantly shows the positive impact of each reported action. Sounds inspiring, let’s join in.

None of Turn the Tide’s nine actions involve drastic changes in your life, yet each packs an environmental punch. In fact, every thousand participants prevent the emission of 4,000,000 pounds of climate-warming carbon dioxide every year.

And that’s just one benefit. Turn the Tide participants are also saving thousands of trees, millions of gallons of water, and protecting endangered species, and all through nine simple actions almost anyone can take.

Here are the recommended actions:

  1. Walk, Bike, Carpool… (Drive Less)
  2. Eat Less Feedlot Beef
  3. Eat Eco-friendly Seafood
  4. Free Yourself From Junk Mail
  5. Install Compact Flourescents
  6. Stop Freezing in the Summer
  7. Stop Sweating in the Winter
  8. Eliminate Lawn Pesticides
  9. Reduce Home Water Usage
  10. Inspire Your Friends
