When we got married the registry wouldn’t let me put Super Hero as my occupation, they put Home Duties on our marriage certificate instead. But I AM a Super Hero and my Super Hero name is…… The Nourisher.

Victoria and NSW lifting the GM moratorium: Act now

By Joanne Hay

This email from Helen Wallace of OTAC (Organic Traders And Consumers network).

If you want to know why we should not be supporting the lifting of the GM moratorium, just read Jeffrey Smith’s “Genetic Roulette€. It clearly lists the health risks of eating genetically modified Food. Or see 65 reasons why you shouldn’t eat GM food here.

GE free Australia has sent every sitting member a copy of the book to read. Write to or ring your local member and ask if they have read it yet. They should have their copy sitting on their desk. Encourage them to take it home to read over the holidays. Insist that they find out the about the issues before the GMO canola is let loose on the community. This is going to affect your health and your children’s.

The one good thing about this is that it has put the debate well and truly into the public spotlight. There have been articles in the press and a piece on the 7.30 report. People are beginning to ask what the issues are. Coles and Goodman Fielder have come out saying that their customers do not want it. They are among a growing list of food producers to have done so.

If you are a member of the Getup organisation, this is a great time to bring the GM issue to the notice of the new Federal government. It appears to be far more likely than the previous government to recognise the potential hazards.

From Getup comes the following message:
On Dec 11, we’re holding Vision GetTogethers - short 90 minute gatherings of local GetUp members - to develop your vision for GetUp, and for the nation. It’s the vital first step in our bold plan to hand every MP a list of your priorities before Parliament sits early next year. Our goal is to have at least one Vision GetTogether in every single electorate in the country.

Let’s make a GE Free Australia one of our priorities for the new Federal government. They should have at least some influence over the state governments.
