“We’re only truly secure when we can look out our kitchen window and see our food growing and our friends working nearby.”
Bill Mollison, co-founder of Permaculture
So often we hear the same story. The same desires from people of all ages and backgrounds. “We’re looking for some land to share….” It’s like a mass exodus back to the earth. While our ‘dominant’ culture seems to be opposing the idea and encouraging us to work more and consume more, we are just not falling for it anymore.
There’s hope for those of us who, for whatever reason, find ourselves stuck in the city. We can build a permaculture garden/community right in our back yard. Check out The Urban Permaculture Guild. It looks like so much fun.

I’m part of this Exodus! My partner and some friends of mine are currently looking for some land to settle on in the Mullumbimby, NNSW area, keen to grow our food and work collectively on creative and rewarding pursuits. Two of my friends are passionate permaculture designers and I am so looking forward to learning more about this wholistic and integral system. It feels so exciting to be actively planning to fulfill this long-held dream, and that all those ‘one days’ are catching up with me!
See you in the garden,
Gil
